Day 22

Uphill Lincoln

All the hits today! It started off still a little misty, but as the sun came through, it was a bright, if bracing, day for a bit of hometown tourism!

And yes, of course, Steep Hill was on today’s agenda! Can’t call yourself a walker if you haven’t walked up Steep Hill!

Starting at the lower end of town, we climbed the bridge by the engine shed and clipped the edge of the Brayford, then headed along the High Street and up The Strait. Barely a mile on the ticker and it was already time to climb Steep Hill! Good job we hadn’t had a big breakfast today!

Once at the top, we looped round the outside of the castle walls before passing through the grounds and on towards the cathedral – click-happy hubby was in his element today!

Somehow we managed to get across Lindum Hill without being mown down by traffic, and from there we ambled along to the arboretum, somewhere new for us as we’d never really been over this part of town on foot before. Happy to report it was quite pleasant and Andy’s squirrel count throughout this challenge is now up to four after today!

“I very much enjoyed my hot chocolate when we did our Nettleham loop which clipped the top end of Lincoln, so I asked my route planner to see if he could make sure we passed by somewhere to grab one today! Needed it, my hands were freezing, even with gloves!”
