Day 13
South Commons
Like yesterday’s route, today’s involved wandering over an area of Lincoln I’ve seen many times from the car windows, but have never actually set foot on before.

South Commons, Lincoln
Setting off down Lincoln High Street, the football fanatic (yes, him again!) took us along Sincil Bank, home to The Mighty Imps – “UTI” and all that, indeed! This lead us out on to the South Commons; like most folks round these parts, I must have driven by them hundreds of times (usually slowly in queuing traffic) but today we went off road.
Andy’s original plan was for us to head up towards the International Bomber Command Centre but despite so much of that being outdoors, the centre is yet another victim of the lockdown closures – another time, hopefully.
We could still see the memorial spire from the commons, with the usual suspects visible to the north of the city too – the castle and cathedral – we could perhaps look at walking from there down to the commons, although I wouldn’t fancy trudging back up Steep Hill after having done a few miles!
We’d also planned to go a bit further along Washingborough Road, to see how the new road junctions were looking before that Eastern by-pass finally opens in the next few weeks, but a lack of pavement meant we had to curtail our wanderings a little.

“Another dry day for walking! I’ve been doing well with regards to the weather, but I suspect I’ll be dodging showers tomorrow!”
